The Taos Center for the Arts and Caffe Renato have partnered to feature TCA member art in the dining rooms of the cafe’s restaurant. The inaugural show of TCA Exhibits at Caffe Renato will feature Dan Cassidy. Dan is a photographer and printmaker and owns Dan Cassidy Studio and Gallery in Arroyo Seco. He is also a founding member of Pressing On – A Taos Printmakers Group. Dan’s work is abstract and influenced by memories and feelings. This solo exhibition highlights two distinct media forms photography and print making. His geometric prints of places and buildings are reflective of sounds and smells of a particular urban environment experience. These prints are hard edged with butting colors while his layered prints are overlapping organic shapes. His aspect photographs of nature take on an imagery that is pure fantasy; a photo of an icicle becomes a superhero, a dancer or dragon. Prior to his training as a visual artist Dan trained as a culinary artist and says that his years as a chef taught him to look at food as an art form. His photographic and printmaking process comes from a layered complexity not unlike his approach to cooking.
