Conversation and book signing with author Jack Parsons and essayist Fred Turner

COLLECTED WORKS BOOK SIGNING ON DECEMBER 11, 2014 Iluminaciones by Author Jack Parsons with Essay by Fred Turner Conversation & book signing with Jack Parsons and Frederick Turner for their most recent collaboration, Iluminaciones; special pre-launch Christmas event Jack Parsons is one of New Mexico’s most celebrated photographers. His iconic images have in large part shaped how the rest of the world sees our beautiful state, through his work on such iconic books as Santa Fe Style (by Christine Mather and Sharon Woods). Here, in Iluminaciones, his seventeenth book, just published by George F. Thompson Publishing, he shares with us nearly 100 of his favorite photographs taken over the long arc of his career, taking us on a very personal, deeply intuitive journey that reveals how he has honed his photographic vision. These are the images that, over time, taught him, as he says, “to see the everyday world with new and better eyes,” and that encouraged him “to look deeply instead of glancing and forgetting.” These images were taken all over the world, from the vast expanses of the desert Southwest to temples in Laos, Burma and Thailand, of colorful streets in Mexico and quiet swimming pools in Los Angeles, to monumental urban landscapes in Eastern Europe. Jack Parsons is well known for his elegant book photography that captures the visual heritage of the American Southwest. His most recent book is Dark Beauty (also available from GFT Publishing). In recognition of his contributions he was honored in 2006 with the New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts. Frederick Turner is the author of twelve books of fiction and non-fiction, the latest of which is Henry Miller and the Making of ‘Tropic of Cancer‘ (Yale 2012). He is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and The Guggenheim Foundation.
