“Love’s Not Color Blind” Author Events in Albuquerque, May 25-26, 2018
To address how racism and prejudice can affect romantic relationships & alternative sexuality communities, Self Serve will host nationally recognized author Kevin Patterson, M.Ed., for a book signing, workshop, and social event. “Love's Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities” was published in March by Thorntree Press with Patterson’s framework for understanding, identifying and confronting racism within relationships and communities. On Friday, May 25, Self Serve will host a 7:30 p.m. book signing and an 8:30 p.m. workshop. In the workshop, Patterson will share his research, anecdotal testimony and analogy about how race can impact relationships. Paterson will also answer questions from participants about how to advance inclusion at individual and community levels. The event will be at Self Serve: 3904 Central Ave SE, Suite B, Albuquerque, N.M., 87108. Tickets for $20 can be purchased at the door or online. On Saturday, May 26, Patterson will be featured during a “Sex Ed Game Show and Carnival” at Sidewinders Bar. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and Jeopardy-style games will occur from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with prizes, physical challenges, relationship advice and a raffle.
