Stone Knapping: The Art of Arrowhead Making

Learn the ancient art of stone knapping and make your own arrowheads, spear points and other tools.

Workshop consists of two, 3-hour sessions held over a 2-day period. Taught by Isleta Stone Artist Edwin Lente. Session 1 (Basic Stone Knapping: Percussion Points) - Learn to precisely strike large flakes off of parent rock and then shape those flakes into an intended arrowhead, blade or tool. Session 2 (Advanced Stone Knapping: Pressure Flaking a Percussion Point) - Continue working your percussion points into desired shapes & designs using more skilled methods & advanced tools. Students are required to enroll in both sessions. Required “homework” after the first session includes practicing on your own at home. Space is limited.
