Summertime – time for tea

Few beverages are as refreshing in the summer as iced tea ... unless it’s a frosty cocktail. Why compromise?

To celebrate National Iced Tea Month (June), Numi Organic Tea teamed up with sommelier James Labe and Van Gogh Vodka to concoct some premium summer libations for the American appetite.

That makes marketing sense, considering an estimated 85% of the tea consumed in U.S. is iced – some 2.5 billion gallons worth $8 billion every year.

Numi’s all organic line includes the prized Puerh picked from 500 year old organic wild tea trees in the mountains of China's Yunnan province. The leaves are piled, dampened and turned over a 60-day period in a unique fermenting process. The tea is then dried and ready to be compressed into bricks for additional aging. Rich and smooth with hints of malt, Pu·Puerh is the featured base for:

Cantaloupe Tea Daiquiri

1½ oz. Numi Emperor’s Puerh Tea ($9 per 16 ct. box)
1½ oz. Van Gogh BLUE Vodka ($29 per 750 ml)
3 oz. Frozen Cubed
1 oz. Coconut Milk
Splash of Lemon Juice

Steep tea at four times normal strength for two minutes, then remove tea bag and chill liquid for later use. Combine and blend ingredients in blender, adding a splash of lemon for each serving. Serve on the rocks, garnish with lemon wedge.

If all that bartending seems like too much work, there’s bottled and ready-to-drink selections such as Numi’s Earl Grey Puerh, Moroccan Mint, Peach, Jasmine, Emperor’s Puerh and Mango.
